Destination: Mexico

I photographed my very first destination wedding this past November in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.  Sam & Lucas flew me out to capture their very special day. The story of Sam and Lucas is straight out of a movie…upon meeting each other they knew, almost instantly, that they had met the person they wanted to spend the rest of their life with. In a courtship that took them allover Europe they fell even more in love and were soon engaged. Sam is from Missouri and Lucas is from Peru, both had been living in Spain and working in the Middle East. With family and friends coming in from Missouri, Peru, Spain, Canada and Japan it made sense for them to pick a central location for their wedding, and Playa del Carmen was the perfect place.

The couple was wed in a traditional Catholic ceremony at a church in the town. Immediately after the ceremony (as the sun was setting rapidly) we went to take photos by some ruins and on the beach. Below are some of my favorite photos from the day:

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

‘Twas a few weeks before Christmas and all through CoMO,

families were buzzing, “Time for our Christmas Photo!”

“Who can we call for creative & fun, unique family portraits to showcase our love?”

L. Frisch Photo of course! It’s simple, really!

Call her now, don’t be silly!

Okay, okay….using a little poetic license here, but the message is the same, if you need Holiday portraits give me a buzz….we’re on the final stretch here.

Check out some of the lovely families I’ve photographed so far this month:

And this is why I love Miller’s…

Check out the Accordion Album I designed for Kyle’s Mom using his senior pics! I love Miller’s Professional Imaging, such a great company with quality products and excellent customer service to boot!

BTW Accordion Albums make great brag books! They fit easily into your purse and have a magnet to keep them shut. Carry all your favorite baby/senior/wedding/family photos around with you to show off to family and friends! Designed by moi with photos of your choice for around $60-$75. Shoot me a message if you’re interested. :)

Baby Colin

Here’s little Colin, 8 weeks old. This cutie has some pretty awesome hair, don’t you think?

Homes For Our Troops

I was contacted by Fuji to take part in a great charity, Homes For Our Troops, which builds specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans. One such home was built here in Columbia, Missouri for SSG Robert Canine.  “Army SSG Robert Canine was a truck commander returning from a patrol in northwest Baghdad in May 2009 when an Explosively Formed Projectile (EFP) blasted into his vehicle leaving him with injuries so severe that both of his legs required amputation. First transported to a field hospital, SSG Canine was then taken by Blackhawk helicopter to Balad before arriving in Landstuhl, Germany where he fell unconscious. Five days later Robert awoke at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and began his road to recovery.” -You can read more about Robert’s story by clicking HERE.

So this evening I met up with Rob, his wife Jennifer and son Sebastian to take some photos in front of their lovely new home. Fuji will take the family’s favorite photo and make a large print for them as a housewarming present.

Katie & Lee: An engagement session

Katie, found L. Frisch photography through a Google search (good to know that my Google Analytics is paying off!). I’ll be photographing their wedding June 18, 2011. Lee kind of HATES getting his photo taken, but he was a good sport, and let me drag them through Stephens Lake Park and downtown Columbia. Katie had a brilliant idea to make the Save-The-Dates look like a photo booth filmstrip, so we set up shop in the Recess, Inc. studio, where I made them make a bunch of funny faces. Here’s some of my favorites from the shoot:

Andy & Emily’s Wedding Day

Saturday afternoon brought me to Clayton to photograph Emily & Andy’s wedding day. After a lovely ceremony at the historic St. Joseph’s Catholic Church the wedding party and I headed out to Forest Park to take photos before the reception. This time of year is so perfect for photos….the colors, the weather, the light, {sigh} perfect. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have an absolutely beautiful bride and a very handsome groom to make for some amazing wedding pictures. Oh, and can I just say that I love, love, LOVED those bridesmaid dresses. Everyone looked spectacular.

After our photo session in the park that included a determined bridesmaid politely requesting that a couple relaxing together vacate their park bench for the perfect picture (nbd, they were super nice about it)…and some mischievous groomsmen that “pretended” to drop our bride (Emily did not appreciate that one Boys), we all headed off to the reception at the Missouri History Museum.

Andy’s brother gave a toast at his brother’s expense that had the whole room laughing out loud. After dining on a fabulous 5-course dinner the couple had their first dance to Lonestar’s “Amazed”.

Perfect day.

I was told at a wedding photography conference to limit my blog photos to 5 or 6, but alas, I had too many favorites. Enjoy!

CHRIS & RACHEL’S WEDDING DAY

Saturday October 2nd was a beautiful day for a wedding. Cool temps and a clear sky…what more could a photographer ask for?
Rachel & Chris are the kind of couple that is so crazy-in-love that everyone around them just knows it. And what’s so perfect about that, is that it totally translates into their photos. They’re just so in love they don’t even notice I’m there snapping away….and that’s when I get the best images. They were wed with a beautiful ceremony at Our Lady of Lourdes here in Columbia, MO. Between the ceremony we hopped over to Shelter Gardens to take photographs. The reception was held at Lela Raney Woods Hall in the Kimball Ballroom on the Stephens Campus where the couple gave away caramel covered apples at each place-setting.  Here are my favorite images of the happy newlyweds:

Kyle P: Senior Session

So Kyle P. is pretty much the coolest 17 yr. old I know. He super musically gifted, cracks me up with his sarcasm, and rocks out on the violin in the band, Man In The Ring. If you’re an avid L. Frisch blog follower you might remember me blogging about photographing their show at the Blue Note on 9/25, as the first part of our senior session. This past Sunday was the second half. Kyle, with Mom & Dad, showed up at the studio with pretty much every violin and one guitar that Kyle plays. Kyle and his dad actually BUILD the violins that Kyle plays…in fact if you look at the pics you can see where Kyle has burned in his signature on the violins. Pretty cool. So we started in the studio…and eventually I made him walk allover downtown…we stopped to take pics in front of a few places that have special significance to kyle…ie: Eastside Tavern, The Blue Note, a RNB sign, and The Missouri Theater. Kyle came into this day thinking he wasn’t going to smile at all…and that all his pics were going to be so serious. HA! Not that I had to go to great lengths to get a laugh out of him, because I’m pretty much a huge nerd anyway and embarrass myself regularly, but boy did I prove him wrong. Got you to smile…na na nah na naaaah! Below are my favorites:

ROOTS ‘N BLUES ‘N BBQ

Every fall Columbia, Missouri plays host to the Roots ‘N Blues ‘N BBQ festival. A 2-day event full of great bluegrass, blues, country, and folk music paired with a delicious BBQ competition. This year I had an opportunity to photograph the festival through Recess, Inc. My boss, LG, assembled a crew of 6 local photogs…dubbed the Photo Kingpin Crew and assigned us all specific bands to cover. I was lucky enough to photograph my new obsession Those Darlins and another great band (from Brazil!), Garotas Suecas. It was such a blast to get to go backstage to photograph the shows, being able to walk around freely and take pictures so up close. I didn’t even have my pass at the time…I just put on my biggest lens and walked right through security and no one even questioned it. AHHHH-mazing. I caught some other acts while I was enjoying the festival, including the one-mic wonders the Del McCoury Band…they were awesome. After all was said and done I got to hang backstage, drink some beers, and ‘shoot the shit’ with Tab Benoit and Anders Osborne. Couldn’t have been a more perfect end to a great night of amazing music. Here are the pics:
