Some of you may be familiar with ‘My Parents Were Awesome’ , the Tumblr site that features a collection of user-submitted photos of moms & dads in all the iconic (and sometimes terrible) fashions of their heyday. Huffington Post took the Tumblr site one step further with their own twist on ‘My Parents Were Awesome’ which features vintage wedding photos. My parents were married in 1967 and the only photos from their big day are kept securely inside a wedding album somewhere in my Mom’s closet–however I do have original photos from my Grandparents wedding day July 24, 1939. In my own personal edition of ‘My (Grand)Parents Were Awesome’ I’m posting some photos from their wedding day. I love everything about my grandmother’s wedding day style–from her tea length lace dress, to her mary jane heels and pin curls, she effortlessly nailed it in the style department. There’s been increasing attention given to exposing the “ugly” truth behind advertiser’s overuse of photo editing technology. This spoof infomercial via filmmaker Jesse Rosten satirizes our society’s unrealistic expectations and obsession with beauty. “This commercial isn’t real and neither are society’s standards of beauty”–just further proof that we shouldn’t be so hard on ourselves.
