I love my job.

Family portrait sessions are one of my favorite things to photograph. I enter into my portrait sessions with the same mindset that I do at weddings, capture emotive images. My goal is always to photograph authentic and genuine moments, to document these brief perfect little instances and preserve them for a lifetime. Here are images from my family session with the Preul’s, taken in their own backyard. Their daughter is one of the happiest babies I’ve ever met and she’s just learning to trust herself standing and taking steps. Before we know it she’ll be full-on walking, so it was really cool to chronicle this point in her development. Someday when she’s older they’ll look back on these photos and reminisce about how little she was and I’m over-the-moon that I was the one that got to preserve those memories on “film”. {sigh} I love this job. :)

The Joy of Being 5

Here are some images from Sunday’s portrait session.

When I photograph kids I prefer to let them run around and play so that I can capture them in their element. Plus, then the kids have a lot more fun too!

Dress your family in gingham.

The Susan family are good friends of mine. Over the past 4 years as I’ve watched their family grow I’ve had the pleasure of documenting many of their important life events. From the shooting their wedding to yearly holiday photos, pics of their daughter before her dance recital and newborn photos of their son, one of my favorite events to photograph is the themed yearly family photo. Amy never ceases to amaze me with her ability to coordinate & style her family in a new and adorable way each year (But then again, we are talking about the woman who single-handedly styled the entire Inside Columbia fashion editorial I shot last fall, so who am I kidding?). This year was particularly fun as the kids are a little older now and really kept me on my toes. Add the gingham theme and a sunset and I had the recipe for an awesome family photo shoot.
